What is a Compounded
Prescription?
Simply stated, "compounds" are
created by "recipes" for prescriptions written
by a physician. They include single or multiple medications
(ingredients) prepared to provide a specific dosage
in a specific form not currently manufactured or distributed
by large pharmaceutical companies. Through compounding,
a patient can receive a customized medication not found
in most retail pharmacies. These medications are specifically
designed for the individual needs of the patient by
his/her doctor to assure the best dosage and/or medication
combination, which is then provided through the most
effective route of administration possible for the patient.
A Specialized Service
Perrone Pharmacy has been compounding
prescriptions for over 50 years, and our current compound
staff has more than 30 years experience combined. We
are established as one of the few pharmacies in Fort
Worth to continue to offer compounding services.
Once a prescription is received by the
compounding depatment, we use measured experience to
find the best preparation method for that compound based
on the individual needs of the patient and the drugs
prescribed by the doctor. Because most patients differ
in their specific needs, in most cases dosages and strengths
of medications will differ by the individual.
We specialize in compounding dermatological,
pediatric, veterinary and hormone replacement therapy
preparations.
